Lab 25 / TAI / for approval

An assistant with no interface of its own.

TAI reads the whole platform, answers from the books, searches live supply through the supplier APIs, and drafts the work that follows. That is a large surface, and the temptation with a large surface is to give it a large room of its own: a chat, a canvas, a set of widgets nobody else uses. That is the version that rots.

The thesis instead: TAI has no output of its own. It finds with the platform's result rows. It answers with citations that ARE those rows. It searches supply and returns the platform's own offer rows, the same ones the marketplace draws. It acts by drafting a real record you can open, read and refuse. Nothing TAI produces is a thing only TAI makes, which is what keeps it honest and what keeps it from ageing into a novelty.

And one rule governs everything it can do: TAI proposes, the platform commits.

01 / the two rules

Why this can be trusted with money.

No output of its ownAn answer's citations are result rows. A supply search returns offer rows. A draft is a real record in draft. There is no AI-only widget anywhere, so everything TAI hands you is something the platform already knows how to show, open and audit.
TAI proposes, the platform commitsIt never issues, never sends, never pays, never cancels. It drafts, and the draft is committed by a person through the same control they would have used anyway, under the same gate and the same signatures.
It reads what you may readEvery lookup goes through the walled evaluator, so TAI sees exactly what the reader sees. Where an honest answer would need a record outside that wall, it says so rather than answering from a narrower set.
It says it is a machineNamed as an AI at the foot of every answer, with each figure linked to the record it came from. The escape hatch is always the record, never a retry.

02 / the scope

Seven things, one field.

The whole offering, stated once. Each is reached by typing, none by choosing a mode, and each returns the platform's own components.

What is deliberately absent

TAI does not issue, send, pay, cancel or sign. Those are the acts the gate and the dual signature exist to govern, and an assistant that could perform them would be a way around the platform's own safety rather than a use of it. Everything up to the moment of commitment is TAI's; the moment itself is a person's.

03 / TAI's own room

Ink when it is empty, paper the moment you work.

The launcher had no identity, and a field that can search live supply and draft a quotation should not open looking like a filter box. But giving TAI a permanent world of its own would break the system, so it takes the one dramatic device the system already owns: ink. The platform is paper; TAI's room is ink.

And it lasts exactly as long as it is useful. Empty, the panel is ink and introduces itself. The instant you type, it returns to paper and becomes the working surface, because results, offers and drafts belong to the platform. The higher dimension is the moment you arrive; the work is ordinary and auditable, which is the point.

No transition to admire, no branding to sit through. The ink was an introduction, and an introduction that repeats itself is an obstacle.

Ink is the deviceThe system's one dramatic ground, already used by the incident cell and the attention lead. TAI borrows it rather than inventing a world.
Identity is a momentIt lasts from opening to the first keystroke. Anything permanent would be a second design language to maintain.
Two animations, totalA blinking caret and one sweep while it reads. The board has the attention lead; nothing else on the platform moves.
The examples are the teachingThree groups, six real prompts in the platform's own words, each tagged with what it will do. Nothing is named that does not work today.

04 / what TAI can do

A page that teaches it properly.

Six examples in a launcher cannot carry a seven-capability assistant, and the first thing people ask about an AI is not how to use it but what it is allowed to do. So there is a dedicated surface, reached from the launcher's foot, from the account menu and from Help. It states each capability in the platform's language, gives prompts you can run by clicking, and ends with the part that earns the trust: what TAI will never do.

What TAI can do

TAI reads everything you can read, on the entity you are in. It answers from the books rather than from memory, cites the records it used, and drafts work for you to commit. It never acts on its own.

What TAI will never do
Issue, book or holdSupply is searched and drafted, never committed. The gate and the supplier are a person's business.
Send anythingNo message, quotation or reminder leaves the platform without someone pressing send.
Move moneyNo payment, refund, credit note or release. Signatures are signatures.
Fill a gap by guessingA missing policy or an unnamed traveller is named and stopped at, never invented.
Why "what it will never do" is on the same page

Trust in an assistant is built by its limits far more than its abilities, and the limits are the part a person cannot discover by trying. Stating them beside the capabilities is what lets someone use the powerful half without hesitating over it.

05 / find

Typing puts you on paper.

The echo chip lives inside the field, right-aligned, and names what was read. There is no chip row under the field: the entity is already stated permanently in the rail, and repeating it there is furniture.

06 / answer

Every figure has a record under it, and every answer can become a watch.

The answer names whose books and at what date, sets its prose in Inter and its figures in mono, and lists what it read as ordinary result rows. The new move is the last follow-up: Watch this turns the question into a standing one, and the next change arrives in the notification centre instead of being re-asked.

what does marchetti still owe us?Answeredesc
TAI, from Northline Travel LLC's books, 22 Jul
Marchetti Group owes USD 16,300 across one open invoice. The Kyoto roadshow was billed at USD 196,300 and USD 180,000 has been received, most recently USD 60,000 by bank transfer three hours ago. Nothing is past its terms: the balance falls due on 05 Sep 2026.

TAI is an AI assistant and can be wrong. Every figure links to the record it came from.esc back
When it must refuse

Where an honest answer would need a record the reader may not see, TAI does not answer from the narrower set. It says "Some records are outside your access, so this total would be incomplete", answers what it can in full, and names the count it could not read without naming the records. A confident wrong total is the worst thing this feature could produce.

07 / search supply

The panel grows into a workspace.

Twenty fares with times, cabins, baggage and Rate Proof cannot live in a 640px launcher, so the panel does what the work needs: a supply search opens the wide surface. What it searched is stated as a band of facts, coverage is stated honestly, and the results are the platform's own offer rows, ending in the only verb TAI is allowed here, which drafts rather than books.

The scope carriesAsked from a customer, the search stays scoped to them and the draft it feeds knows whose trip it is.

08 / compose and prepare

A draft you can read, and refuse.

Asked to compose, TAI shows the record it is about to create, not a description of it: the same bands, the same figures, the same gaps a person would see on the page. What is missing is named rather than filled in with a guess, and the commit is a single ink verb that hands the work to the ordinary flow.

Why the gaps are shown rather than filled

A missing cancellation policy is the difference between a quotation that can be shared and one that cannot, and a model is perfectly capable of inventing a plausible one. Naming the gap keeps the person who is accountable in the loop at the only moment it matters. The same holds for a margin under the floor, an unnamed traveller, or a supplier whose terms are not captured: TAI states them and stops.

09 / what this adds to the system

Six laws.

No output of its ownResult rows, offer rows, real drafts. No widget that only TAI makes.
Proposes, never commitsNo issuing, sending, paying, cancelling or signing. It drafts; a person commits through the ordinary control.
The wall holdsEvery lookup through the walled evaluator, and a refusal rather than a partial total.
Coverage is statedA supply search names who answered and who did not.
Gaps are named, never filledA missing policy, an unnamed traveller, a margin under the floor: stated and stopped at.
The panel grows to the work640px to find and answer, the wide surface to search supply and to draft. The size is the work's, not a setting.
Three calls

One: the scope as drawn, seven capabilities, with Prepare and Watch included or held back. Two: supply search opening the wide surface, against keeping everything at 640px and sending supply results to the marketplace instead. Three: whether Compose may draft a quotation directly, or only ever an enquiry, leaving quoting to a person.
